The Finnish port of Hanko plans to build a wind hub with Euroports

Euroports Group and Port of Hanko Ltd have inked a Letter of Intent (LOI) to establish an innovative wind hub at the Port of Hanko in Koverhar, Finland, solidifying the port’s position as a key player in the offshore wind supply chain. Port of Argentia and Hamburg Port Authority partner for green hydrogen collaboration

On March 18th, the Port of Argentia in Canada and the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) in Germany entered into a Letter of Intent (LOI) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the export and import of green hydrogen between the two countries. The agreement was signed by CEOs Scott Penney of the Port of Argentia and Jens Meier of HPA during the Canada-Germany Hydrogen and Ammonia Producer-Offtaker Conference held in Hamburg.

On March 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., Jadranski pomorski servis (JPS) celebrated the expansion of its tugboat fleet with the addition of two new ships, “Moretto” and “Gea,” at the Karolina Riječka Pier. Dignitaries including Croatian Government Vice President and Minister of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure Oleg Butković attended, along with representatives from the Port of Rijeka Authority, Primorsko-Goranska County, the City of Rijeka, SCAFI Group, and JPS.

The EU introduces stricter controls on imports of sea cargo

The EU’s implementation of the Import Control System (ICS2) for maritime cargo imports is progressing to its next stage, set to take effect from June onwards and impacting all shipments from third countries. Carriers must adhere to the stricter standards of ICS2 starting June 3, with a final deadline of December 4, 2024, while freight forwarders can initiate migration for self-declaration from December 4, 2024. Facilitating cooperation, a new form of declaration, Multiple Filing, simplifies collaboration between carriers and freight forwarders by allowing separate transmission of basic and additional information, merged later in the Shared Trader Interface (STI), with Gladiator anticipating a high adoption rate.

With 5.4 million tonnes of grain exported, a 30% increase from the previous February, the country has demonstrated remarkable resilience amidst ongoing conflicts. This surge in exports is attributed to the strategic successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in securing the Black Sea region, particularly the port of Odesa, enabling unimpeded maritime transport corridors.

Port Gdański Eksploatacja invests in new Liebherr LHM 280 mobile cranes

In recent days, new investments in Baltic ports have become increasingly important, and the recent event in Szczecin is evidence of the development of transhipment employment. Port Gdański Eksploatacja has reloaded two new Liebherr LHM 280 mobile cranes, expanding its resources after purchasing the equipment last year. With a maximum lifting capacity of 84 tonnes and a radius of 40 metres, these impressive machines provide a print port that can handle loads of up to 100 tonnes, working in tandem. The introduction of this new equipment will further expand the company’s scope of operations, increasing the volume of cargo handling, cargo projects and bulk cargo, which will ultimately contribute to inefficiencies.
