The Baltic States and the EU are launching a project for the unified management of Rail Baltica.

The Transport Ministries of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, together with the European Commission and with the support of the Technical Assistance Instrument (TSI), have launched a project to create a unified Rail Baltica infrastructure management system. The project, implemented by EY, will develop an approach to the efficient management of railway infrastructure and provision of transport services along the entire Rail Baltica line, which will help overcome administrative barriers between countries and improve international connections.

A2B-online launches new train service between the Netherlands and Italy.

Logistics company A2B-online has announced the launch of A2B-online Express, a new rail service that will run three times a week between Moerdijk in the Netherlands and Melzo in Italy. From April 2025, the frequency of services is planned to be increased to four times a week. This step is aimed at optimizing the supply chain and strengthening the connections between the countries.

JCL Logistics launches first all-electric container route.

JCL Logistics, together with Contargo Combitrac and Tchibo, has launched the first all-electric container transport between Hof (Bavaria) and Cheb (Bohemia). Since August, two of the four new 40-tonne electric Volvo FH Electric trucks have been test driving on the approximately 50-kilometre route, which is an important part of Tchibo’s non-food supply chain. The trucks have an output of 666 hp and a range of up to 300 kilometres, enabling up to 50% of the transport on this route to be carried out with minimal environmental impact.

Dostyk wagon depot improves safety and efficiency of train maintenance.

In the first nine months of 2024, the Dostyk operational wagon depot achieved significant improvements in the safety and efficiency of wagon maintenance, reducing the number of accidents and increasing throughput. During this time, 39,672 trains were inspected, which is 4.6% more than in the same period last year, and 132,065 wagons were delivered for loading, which is 16.4% higher than in 2023.

Azerbaijan Railways introduces reforms to develop the Middle Corridor.

In order to develop international transport corridors through Azerbaijan and increase their competitiveness, Azerbaijan Railways is actively implementing reforms and improvements. The key area has become cooperation with international partners on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route to promote the Middle Corridor, which ensures the transit of goods from East to West. In 2024, work began on the establishment of the Eurasian Transport Corridor Association.

Kazakhstan and China discussed prospects for border rail transport.

The XXXIII meeting of the Joint Commissions of Border Railways of Kazakhstan and China was held in Urumqi (PRC). The participants summed up the work of railway crossings between the two countries for the first nine months of 2024 and discussed transportation plans until the end of the year. Preliminary volumes of freight traffic for 2025 and the freight train schedule for 2024-2025 were also agreed upon.
