The Port of Riga is uniting with European ports for sustainable development

Riga Port has joined hands with Cartagena (Spain), Trieste, and Monfalcone (Italy) ports, alongside North Sea ports (Belgium, the Netherlands), to establish the Association of Four Sea Ports. This collaboration aims to bolster sustainability, energy, digitalization, and European transport in port operations. Through shared expertise and experience, the association seeks to foster operational synergy among ports, inviting others to join.

KTLF24: Current status and prospects for the development of the TITR route

Gaidar Abdikerimov, Secretary General of the International TMTM Association, presented the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route association at the last Kazakhstan Transport and Logistics Forum. It started with the idea of ​​creation back in 2013, and in 2017 it became an official legal entity with headquarters in the city of Astana, and since then significant changes have occurred. Having started with seven companies from three countries – Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia; the association currently unites 11 countries and 25 companies operating in the transport, logistics, port and shipping sectors.

DACHSER приобретает контрольный пакет акций Fercam Italia

Компания DACHSER укрепила свое присутствие на итальянском рынке логистики, приобретя 80 процентов акций совместного предприятия DACHSER & Fercam Italia. Сделка вступила в силу 28 марта 2024 года. Это приобретение знаменует собой завершение приобретения DACHSER контрольного пакета акций подразделений сборных грузов и контрактной логистики компании Fercam после проверки и одобрения Европейской комиссией в соответствии с законодательством о конкуренции в ноябре 2023 года. Совместное предприятие, созданное для работы в сфере сборных грузов и контрактной логистики в Италии, начало свою деятельность в начале года, а официальное присоединение DACHSER к нему состоялось 28 марта 2024 года, завершив сделку.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges received a grant for shore power supply for cruise ships

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has secured a 3.2 million euro European grant to implement a shore power installation for cruise ships at Zeebrugge. By 2026, cruise ships docking at the port will have the option to access green electricity, a move expected to become mandatory across Europe in four years. This initiative aligns with the port’s goal to drive the energy transition in the maritime sector, leveraging its unique position as the operator of the cruise terminal at Zweedse Kaai in Zeebrugge.

New railway route connects Europe and Ukraine

METRANS commenced its services connecting to Ukraine back in 2022, facilitating the transportation of various cargoes between the Slovak/Ukrainian border. Recently, during the European Eastern holidays, a significant milestone was achieved as METRANS and Ukrzeleznitsa collaborated to initiate the first train at the Medyka border between Poland and Ukraine.

KTLF24: Role of the Port of Aktau in the system of international transport corridors

At the Kazakhstan Transport and Logistics Forum: Transit Potential and Infrastructure, Kairat Kalliola presented a detailed description and development strategy for the port of Aktau, a key element of the Trans-Caspian Multimodal Transport Route (TMTM). Speaking about the current situation, there was a decrease in the volume of cargo along the TMTM route last year, caused by a reorientation to the southern direction due to a decrease in freight costs and the end of subsidies for shippers. However, on November 25, 2022, road maps were signed between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, providing for an increase in the corridor’s throughput capacity to 10 million tons per year by 2027.

The development of transit traffic from China was discussed in Seoul

An important meeting was held in Seoul on the optimization of railway transportation and the development of transit routes from China. The event was organized by the largest Chinese companies China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd (CRCT) and Lianyungang Port Group (LPG). Deputy General Director for Logistics of KTZ Express JSC Aibek Kapar presented the participants with the current opportunities for cargo transit through Kazakhstan, with an emphasis on the conditions of transportation along the West-East Transport Corridor. As a result of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to launch transit transportation of spare automotive parts from Korea to Central Asian countries. KTZ Express JSC, together with CRCT, as well as the automobile concerns Hyundai and General Motors, is already preparing to begin deliveries in the near future.

Kazakhstan offers Armenia a transport route through Iran

Kazakhstan offers Armenia to use the transport corridor through Iran to deliver goods to Central Asia and China. According to the director of the Astana Diplomatic Club, Kaiyrbolat Sakhmetov, Armenian carriers are recommended to more actively use the Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan route. Goods from Armenia can be transported through Iran to a land port on the border with Turkmenistan, from where trains will depart in the direction of Kazakhstan, Central Asian countries and China.
