The transport sector of Kazakhstan is showing steady growth.

In January 2025, Kazakhstan’s transport performance improved significantly. The physical volume index (PVI) of the Transport and Warehousing sector increased by 119%, indicating the high dynamics of the industry’s development. During the month, 90.3 million tons of cargo were transported, which is 18.2% more than a year earlier, and passenger traffic amounted to 143.2 million people (+ 15.4%).

A new international container terminal, HHIT, has been launched in Hai Phong.

The opening ceremony of the international container terminal HHIT (Hateco Hai Phong International Container Port) was held in the port of Hai Phong (Vietnam). The first vessel to arrive at the new terminal was the container ship ESL Dubai. HHIT, located in the Lach Huyen area, is the largest and most modern deep-water container complex in northern Vietnam, capable of receiving vessels of international shipping lines.

Порт Шанхая установил новый рекорд по контейнерообороту.

В январе 2025 года контейнерооборот порта Шанхай превысил 5 млн TEU, что стало самым высоким месячным показателем среди всех международных портов. По данным оператора Shanghai International Port Group, это на 111 тонн, 300 тонн больше, чем за аналогичный период 2024 года, когда порт обработал 4,5 млн TEU.

Klaipeda port is preparing for the development of offshore wind energy.

The Klaipeda Port Authority has signed a contract for the reconstruction of the berths on the Smelte Peninsula, which will ensure the assembly, handling and transportation of wind turbines. The work will be carried out by UAB Tilsta, which will deepen the water area to 12 meters and modernize 453 meters of the berth front, preparing it for high loads. The cost of the project is 36.6 million euros excluding VAT.

Kazakhstan and Iran strengthen North-South trade ties.

The management of Kazlogistics STK and the international holding Eurasian Caspian Trans discussed the development of transit transportation along the North-South corridor during a meeting in Astana. The focus is on strengthening economic ties and expanding cooperation with Iran, which intends to increase trade turnover with Kazakhstan to $3 billion. In 2024, grain supplies to Iran doubled, reaching 526 thousand tons.

DP World sets record: 88.3 million TEU in 2024.

DP World recorded record container volumes in 2024, handling 88.3 million TEU, up 8.3% year-on-year. Despite macroeconomic challenges and the Red Sea crisis, the company’s global logistics network, spanning 78 countries and with a capacity of over 100 million TEU, delivered solid growth thanks to long-term investments in infrastructure and the addition of new services.

Boskalis builds industry’s largest stone placing vessel.

Dutch company Royal Boskalis has embarked on a major fleet renewal, converting one of its existing vessels into the world’s largest seabed rock installation (SRI) vessel. The new project, named Windpiper, will increase Boskalis’ capacity to 45,500 tonnes, doubling the company’s current capacity and cementing its leadership in this market segment.

Yusen Logistics has opened a modern logistics centre in Bottrop.

Yusen Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH, together with developer Prologis and key partners including the government, the city of Bottrop and Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., have officially opened a new logistics centre. The ceremony took place on the premises of the warehouse and included a traditional ribbon cutting and the Japanese ritual of “kagami-biraki” – breaking a sake barrel, symbolising a successful start to operations. The event was attended by Chairman and CEO of Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. Hiroki Harada, who travelled from Japan especially to attend the opening.
