The port of Klaipeda increased cargo turnover by 15% and strengthened its leadership among the Baltic ports.

In the first quarter of 2025, the Port of Klaipeda handled 9.75 million tons of cargo, 15% more than in the same period last year. The growth of 1.3 million tons was driven by record figures in the container and LNG cargo segments. Klaipeda’s share among the Baltic ports grew to almost 41%, strengthening its leading position in the market.

Switzerland has proposed new measures to support rail and water freight transport.

The Swiss government has submitted the full version of the Freight Transport Ordinance (GüTV) for public consultation, which provides for a reform of the subsidy system for rail and inland waterway transport. The new procedure envisages fixed payments, for example CHF 40 per loaded rail car with a minimum annual volume of 720 cars for industrial sidings. The total funding will amount to CHF 50 million per year. At the same time, the current compensation for road hauliers in combined transport will be gradually abolished.

An oil loading terminal will be built in Kuryk: the start of work is scheduled for 2025.

The construction of an oil loading terminal will begin in the port of Kuryk in 2025, said the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev. Although the exact timing and volume of investment have not yet been disclosed, the ministry emphasizes the strategic importance of the project and specifies that in the future, the port also plans to build a terminal for storing and shipping “green” hydrogen.

Литва входит в число лидеров по росту пробега грузовых автомобилей в Германии.

В марте 2025 года литовские грузовики увеличили пробег по платным дорогам Германии на 61 TP3T по сравнению с аналогичным периодом прошлого года. По данным Федерального ведомства логистики и мобильности Германии (BALM), рост зафиксирован после спада в феврале и касается литовских, польских и немецких грузовиков. Общий пробег всех транспортных средств весом более 3,5 тонн увеличился на 6,41 TP3T по сравнению с аналогичным периодом прошлого года.

UZ Cargo Poland has started transporting petroleum products along the Lithuania–Poland–Ukraine route.

Ukrzaliznytsia’s subsidiary UZ Cargo Poland, in partnership with LTG Cargo Polska, successfully carried out the first transportation of oil products along the Lithuania-Poland-Ukraine route. For the first time, the transportation was carried out by UZ Cargo Poland as a licensed EU railway operator in Poland, providing a full range of freight forwarding services and using wagons owned by JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

CLdN expands services between Ireland and Europe with new container service from Zeebrugge.

Shipping company CLdN has announced the launch of a new weekly container service between the Belgian port of Zeebrugge and Ireland. From 10 May 2025, the 800 TEU M/V JSP Rover will operate between Albert II and the ports of Cork and Dublin, offering customers lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) services alongside its existing four weekly RoRo services on the same routes.

KazMunayGas and AD Ports Group have developed a design for a new container ship for the Trans-Caspian route.

During the negotiations between the Chairman of the Board of JSC KazMunayGas Askhat Khasenov and the CEO of AD Ports Group Mohammed Al Shamisi, it became known about the joint development of a container ship project with a capacity of up to 780 TEU. The vessel is being created taking into account the rapid growth of cargo traffic on the Trans-Caspian international transport route.

DSV has completed the largest transaction in its history, the purchase of Schenker from Deutsche Bahn.

DSV has officially completed the acquisition of logistics company Schenker from German rail company Deutsche Bahn for DKK 106.7 billion (approx. EUR 14.3 billion), creating a global leader in the transport and logistics industry. This is the largest transaction in DSV’s history, and will result in the combined company operating in more than 90 countries, with 160,000 employees and revenues of around DKK 310 billion (EUR 41.6 billion).
