The rail operator METRANS continues to develop green logistics within the HHLA Pure service. In 2025, the company expanded its route network by connecting Istanbul, and all shipments in this direction, as previously on the sections between the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Gdansk, Koper, Rijeka and others, were successfully certified by TÜV Nord according to the TN-CC 020 standard.
HHLA Pure allows METRANS to offset its carbon dioxide emissions by purchasing Gold Standard certificates. In particular, the company finances the operation of a wind farm in Düzova (Turkey), where approximately 92 thousand tons of CO₂ emissions are avoided annually. In addition, on all mainline routes, METRANS exclusively uses Siemens and Bombardier electric locomotives running on “green” energy in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.
Since the 2020s, the company has already offset 230,000 tons of CO2, making a significant contribution to environmental protection. METRANS customers can also obtain their own HHLA Pure certificate, confirming their participation in reducing their carbon footprint.
