The state railway company Latvijas dzelzceļš has announced an open tender for the design and construction work on the modernisation of nine passenger stations on the Riga–Lugaži–state border line. The work will cover the stations of Inčukalns, Eglupe, Sigulda, Līgatne, Ieriki, Lode, Valmiera, Strenči and Valka. It is planned to build new platforms, update the track infrastructure, create amenities for passengers with limited mobility and improve pedestrian areas and lighting. Applications will be accepted until 20 May 2025.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the fourth stage of the Latvijas dzelzceļš Station Modernisation Programme, which will last until 2029. The goal is to develop the railway as a key element of public transport in the country. In total, the programme will cover at least 97 stations and stops – about 70% of the entire passenger network. Financing is provided by the EU and the company itself.
The previous stages included the construction of permanent and temporary platforms in different directions – from Jurmala to Bolderaja. In the second stage alone, which will be completed by the end of 2026, more than 52 million euros have already been allocated for 45 stations, including support from EU funds for two budget periods.
