La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) has become the first Italian port of call on the new AE11/SE2 Asia-Mediterranean route launched by the partnership between Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd (Gemini Network). On April 10, the Liberian-flagged MV Maersk Camden arrived at the port, starting the new regular service to China. This is an important step in the development of La Spezia’s role as a key logistics hub in the northern Tyrrhenian Sea.
Maersk Camden docked at the Fornelli East berth, which recently resumed operations after renovation. Cargo operations began immediately after arrival and were successfully completed on schedule. The vessel began its route in the Chinese port of Qingdao and is the first of 12 container ships involved in the new service.
The traditional ceremony of exchanging commemorative coats of arms took place during the call. The event was attended by the ship’s captain Roman Vostrikov, representatives of Maersk Line – Pablo Perez Ceron, Robert Percic, Paola Pastorino and Manuela Viale, as well as Contship managers Peter Robineau and Sarah Fuliano.
