The Rail Connected program has introduced the “train composition” function, which aims to improve the exchange of information between carriers, railway operators and terminals through digitalization. This will significantly reduce the need for manual operations and increase the efficiency of transportation.
Since October 1, 2024, the “train composition” function has been in test mode and is now actively used. It provides digital access to data on the composition of each train, including information on the locomotive, the number and types of wagons, as well as containers on each of them.
As Saskia Moureo, Director of Digital Services at the Port of Rotterdam, noted, “transparency in the train composition helps to avoid many errors and inefficient use of resources.” This not only increases the efficiency and reliability of rail freight transport, but also helps to build trust between the participants in the chain.
