The implementation of the TIR international road transport system in China has led to rapid development of the sector, according to the International Road Transport Union (IRU). The number of operators and vehicles using TIR has increased by more than 400%, while the number of shipments to and from China has grown by 88%. Hauliers from eight countries have used more than 50 routes through 35 border crossings and inland logistics hubs.
In 2024, China established five IRU-accredited logistics hubs. They are located in Kashgar, Urumqi, Zhengzhou, Shenyang and Chengdu. These centers provide fast-track customs processing, warehousing and transhipment of goods, reducing clearance time to two hours.
The development of the TIR system has significantly simplified international transport and strengthened China’s role in global logistics. The IRU notes that the growth in the number of routes and participants confirms the high potential of the system to further expand cross-border trade flows.
