Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov met with the head of Iran Railways Jabbar Ali Zakeri Sardroudi at a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission in Tehran. During the talks, the parties discussed the expansion of the cargo terminal in the Iranian city of Astara and the current progress at the facility.
It was emphasized that the Astara terminals, located in Azerbaijan and Iran, play a key role in increasing cargo flow along the North-South corridor, increasing its efficiency. These facilities not only strengthen the transport infrastructure of both countries, but also contribute to the development of regional trade and the disclosure of the strategic potential of the corridor.
During the meeting, the parties signed the “Strategic Cooperation Plan for the Implementation of the Agreement on the Construction and Operation of the Terminal in Astara”. The document includes the approval of the master plan of the terminal, completion of construction work by the end of 2025, recognition of investments and other important aspects stipulated by the protocol signed on January 22, 2025.
