Estonian company Operail is the first company in the country to test single-driver freight transport. The C30-M series locomotive, developed and built by the company itself, has entered service. This locomotive has successfully passed the test and received approval for single-driver operation.
Operail plans to receive approval for four to five more locomotives of this series in the first quarter of 2025. Previously, C30-M locomotives were used mainly for shunting operations and were not certified for single-driver operation.
The transition to single-driver operation should improve the efficiency of freight transport, reducing costs and increasing the company’s productivity.
