At a government meeting, Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov presented measures to modernize transport infrastructure and develop international corridors. Particular attention was paid to the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, where active work is underway. Construction of a container hub has begun in Aktau, and a new grain terminal with a capacity of one million tons per year has been commissioned in Kuryk.
As part of the development of the Khorgos hub, a cargo and passenger airport project was launched by the Kazakh-German enterprise SKYHANSA LLP. It is planned to create an aviation hub with a cargo terminal, fuel storage, aircraft maintenance center and cargo airline in the Khorgos SEZ. The Altynkol station is also being modernized to increase throughput.
In addition, work is underway on the border with Kyrgyzstan to improve the infrastructure in the Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Center and the Central Asia International Industrial Cooperation Center. The plans include repairing 144 kilometers of the Postepnoye-Fyodorovka road and building a 152-kilometer Darbaz-Maktaaral railway line, which will increase the region’s transport capabilities.
