The ports of Hamburg and Vancouver have signed a cooperation agreement.

The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on key areas including decarbonization, safety and the development of the cruise industry.

The collaboration covers topics such as preparing for alternative bunker fuels, using drones to improve safety, using predictive analytics to optimize operations, cybersecurity and accrediting cruise ports based on sustainable standards. It is also planned to exchange experiences between the ports, which will allow for a better understanding of the daily challenges of the partners.

The ports of Hamburg and Vancouver are the largest in their countries. Hamburg is Europe’s leading port and the largest industrial center in Northern Europe. Vancouver is North America’s most diversified port, handling $300 billion in trade annually. The port leaders noted that this cooperation will open up new opportunities to improve sustainability, innovation and safety in both countries.
