Within the framework of the Strategic Shipping Development Program approved by the Supervisory Board of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) CJSC upon the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, the company has completed the acquisition of the second Handysize dry cargo vessel. This acquisition underlines ASCO’s intention to expand its operational capabilities beyond the Caspian Sea.
The new vessel, named Murovdag in accordance with the instructions of the President, has a deadweight of 38,000 tons and is similar to the first dry cargo vessel Khojaly, which was put into operation in May this year. Its dimensions are 179.9 meters in length, 30 meters in width and 15 meters in height, with a maximum speed of 15.7 knots, which allows it to easily enter shallow-water ports.
The vessel, built in Japan in 2020, meets international environmental standards and is economical in fuel consumption. It will make its maiden voyage from China to Ecuador, before heading to Colombia, with arrival at its destination expected in December.
