UK: VolkerFitzpatrick begins work on Radlett Strategic Rail Freight Interchange.

This infrastructure development will enhance the UK’s rail freight capabilities, bringing benefits to the local economy and the national supply chain.

VolkerFitzpatrick has announced that it has started work on the first phase of the Radlett Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) on behalf of SEGRO. The new interchange will be served from the Midlands Mainline (MML) railway via a new two road rail connection.

VolkerFitzpatrick is currently working on the multi-million pound rail contract, which includes a new underpass as well as overhead line equipment works, lineside civil engineering works, installation of switches and crossings for the main line connection and signalling works.  The underpass is essential to enable further work to be carried out on the project. It will also carry the two road-rail feeds into a new rail terminal area and allow the construction of associated storage facilities. This project is helping to improve the UK’s rail freight infrastructure, bringing benefits to the local economy and the national supply chain.

VolkerFitzpatrick is using Freyssineyt’s unique and complex cabling system to install the new 60 metre long precast underpass structure, which is currently being constructed alongside the railway line. The project also includes junction improvements, a new roundabout on the A414, landscaping and railway works.
