Rashad Shakarov, Founder and CEO of Azerbaijan Maritime Engineering and Construction Group of Companies, emphasized that Azerbaijan is located in the heart of the Middle Corridor, which is an important part of the 11,000-kilometer China-Europe route. This route passes through the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan, connecting directly with Europe. AMEC therefore seeks to locate its vessels in the Caspian Sea for transport from Kazakhstan to the port of Baku.
We really want to collaborate. Our intention is to invite you to join us. What companies would we like to see? The main focus is on multimodal transport through the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijan. This requires a railway network that connects China with Kazakhstan, and then cargo is transported via ferries to Azerbaijan and on to Georgia and other countries. Trans-logistics operations are also important, including loading containers onto dry cargo ships and transporting them to Azerbaijan.
From 2025-2026, the focus will be on freight transport. Of course, there are certain difficulties, the main of which are related to port management and cargo handling. A significant amount of container traffic is expected at the ports of Baku, which will lead to port congestion. Experienced port managers and cargo handling specialists are invited to solve these problems.
“We want to make Baku a central cargo hub. This requires significant experience in the construction and management of the hub and cargo flows. Our plans to increase cargo transportation capacity are also important. We are planning to purchase dry cargo vessels with a capacity of about 300,000 or 5,000 heavy tons. Given the decline in the level of the Caspian Sea, we need ships with shallow draft, which is one of the difficulties. We are engaged in this task and include such vessels in our program,” Rashad Shakarov shared his ideas.
