EAIL24: Innovative intermodal technologies.

Liliana Krutonog, CEO of MALBI-trans s.r.o., presented a company headquartered in the Czech Republic, which has strong ties with the Czech Railways and makes extensive use of their facilities and terminals. They work closely with the Czech Cargo Group and Czech Logistics, helping to promote their activities in Central Asia and China. The company specializes in various transport services, with a particular focus on intermodal solutions such as block trains, individual containers and groups of containers. In addition, they carry out railcar transport, including recent successful projects such as a system train from the Czech Republic to Ukraine for construction materials with return shipment of grain from Ukraine.

The company also has a subsidiary, TransVector, in Uzbekistan, which primarily focuses on transport between Central Asia and China, as well as between Kazakhstan and China, with further growth prospects expected in Uzbekistan. Although they no longer interact with Russian companies for external reasons, they are actively using the Middle Corridor and have conducted pilot trains, indicating a commitment to exploring new transit routes and services.

Liliana Krutonog in her presentation paid attention to the innovative intermodal solutions of the African company. The technology is reminiscent of Lego blocks, demonstrating a modular concept that allows the blocks to be loaded onto innovative intermodal railcar platforms. This versatile solution can transport a variety of goods including chemicals, iron ore and construction materials, making it adaptable to different freight needs. Moreover, these units can be used for freight and sea transport, with functionality similar to containers, which increases their practicality and ease of use on various types of transport.

The speaker highlighted specific examples of units suitable for the energy and chemical industries, for example, an XXL container with a lifting capacity of about 45 tons. The efficiency of these units is highlighted by the ability to load two units into one car, demonstrating remarkable productivity and efficiency in logistics operations.

“Based on practical experience, we can successfully use this solution in transport projects for Czech companies, especially in the steel and iron ore sectors. Using devices with built-in vibration technology, these designs optimize the unloading process, eliminating the need for additional heating during the winter. This innovation increases efficiency by simplifying unloading and reloading processes, ultimately optimizing logistics operations for smoother cargo handling,” said Liliana Krutonog.

The presentation also looked at various examples, demonstrating the versatility of the company’s offerings. One such example is the RockTainer “Infra,” which resembles a hopper car but functions as an intermodal unit. In addition, this truck is specifically designed for transporting wood chips, reflecting the company’s commitment to meeting a variety of cargo needs.

The company already has practical experience in transporting wood chips – transportation from Kaliningrad to Poland. This venture, undertaken several years ago, highlighted the company’s ability to meet the needs of its customers. In addition, the introduction of efficient unloading technologies, such as those used by coal companies in the Czech Republic, has resulted in significant cost savings of more than €2 million over the course of the year.

The success stories culminated in long-term contracts that confirmed the company’s reliability and effectiveness in meeting customer requirements. Liliana highlighted the use of stationary machines for unloading wood chips, coal and iron ore, which provides both flexibility of implementation and cost-sharing opportunities. In addition, the versatility of heavy-duty containers, demonstrated by their mobility and compatibility with trucks and railcars, underscores the company’s commitment to providing comprehensive and efficient solutions across a variety of industries.
