A significant portion of the allocated funds, two-thirds to be exact, is earmarked for creating new capacities and developing activities in response to customer needs. A key initiative is the establishment of an offshore wind energy terminal, crucial for Lithuania’s Baltic Sea wind farm projects. Additionally, preparations will commence for the construction of a new cruise ship quay, allowing the port to accommodate larger cruise vessels and create a new public space. The southern part of the port is also in line for development, encompassing a new 100-hectare area, ensuring continuity and expansion of ship repair and construction activities.
Green projects take center stage as Klaipėda Port implements an EU-funded initiative to install green hydrogen production facilities and public refueling stations. Onshore power infrastructure, featuring charging stations at ro-ro terminals, will enable ferries arriving at the port to connect to the grid, minimizing environmental impact. The Port Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to improving existing port infrastructure, dedicating approximately one-third of investments to develop shared infrastructure, enhance land connections, and bolster navigational safety in line with market changes and needs.
