Construction of a 7.2-kilometer tunnel has begun in southern Armenia.

The Armenian government has officially launched the construction of a 7.2-kilometer tunnel in the Syunik region. The new structure will form part of the Agarak–Kajaran highway, a key infrastructure project in the country’s south. Construction work was inaugurated by Minister of Territorial Administration Davit Khudatyan and representatives of the contracting firms during a ceremonial event.

The Agarak–Kajaran road project is being implemented in two stages. The first involves the construction of a 32-kilometer section between Agarak and Kajaran, the majority of which is already complete; this phase also includes the construction of two tunnels and over 15 bridges. This section terminates approximately seven kilometers south of the town of Kajaran.

The second stage entails the construction of the new 7.2-kilometer tunnel, which will connect the highway to Kajaran and complete this segment of the transport corridor. Armenian authorities have not yet announced a completion date for the project.
