Akiem and Lineas strengthen partnership to develop green freight transport in Europe.

With freight volumes growing and CO₂ emissions becoming increasingly important, Akiem and Lineas are expanding their partnership to support the transition from road to rail. According to ADEME, trucks account for around 10% of CO₂ emissions in Europe and 13% in France. With transport volumes projected to grow by 30% by 2030, the development of rail infrastructure is critical to reducing environmental impacts and road congestion.

Under the agreement, extended until 2030, Lineas will increase the number of locomotives leased from Akiem from 32 to 39. The fleet includes both electric locomotives (Prima BB27000 and BB37000) and diesel models (BB75000), enabling efficient operation on non-electrified lines and reducing energy consumption by six times compared to road transport. These measures will help strengthen the position of rail as a sustainable logistics alternative.

Akiem CEO Fabien Rochefort emphasized that the company is actively investing in fleet renewal and service reliability improvement, while Lineas CEO Eric van Ockenburg expressed confidence that further cooperation with Akiem will accelerate development and offer customers even more efficient and environmentally friendly logistics solutions.
