APM Terminals Maasvlakte II has officially launched its terminal expansion, marking a major step in the development of one of the most modern container terminals in the world. The expansion, carried out in close cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam and the CareGo consortium, will double the terminal’s capacity, making it not only the largest, but also the most efficient and sustainable APM Terminals automated terminal in Europe.
The CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, Baudweijn Siemons, noted the importance of the long-term cooperation with APM Terminals and stressed that such investments are necessary to maintain the port’s attractiveness as a business centre and its reliability as a container hub in North-West Europe, especially in the context of geopolitical instability.

The expansion includes the construction of 51 hectares of container area, 1,000 metres of deep-water berth, a road and rail handling area, and the use of the latest automated terminal trucks. With innovations such as automated and environmentally friendly vehicles, the terminal is ready for future challenges.
The first phase of expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, enabling APM Terminals Maasvlakte II to continue to meet the high demand for services and set new standards in sustainability and efficiency.
