BMMTP: Global connection between Europe and Asia

The importance of the Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP) in the global integration of Europe and Asia along the Middle Corridor was emphasized after a meeting between the port management and the representative of the European Union for Central Asia. Special Representative Terhi Hakala visited the port in Alyat as part of his visit to Azerbaijan.

BISCP is a key player in strengthening the sustainable economic development of the region and ensuring global connectivity between Europe and Asia through the Middle Corridor. The port’s cooperation with the EU began in 2016 and includes a number of joint projects aimed at implementing the green port initiative and digitalization to increase efficiency.

At the meeting with Hakala, projects in the field of sustainable development and partnerships with the private sector were discussed, aimed at achieving the ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) strategy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. Work is also underway to increase the port’s annual transshipment capacity from the current 15 million tons to 25 million tons.
