The transport ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan met in Astana ahead of the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. During the talks, the issues of developing transit corridors, rail and road transport, as well as air traffic, were discussed. Particular attention was paid to strengthening transport connectivity through the construction of new roads and expansion of air traffic.

Following the meeting, the ministers signed the Astana Communique, confirming the countries’ intentions to continue strengthening cooperation in the transport sector. In addition, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed, which is aimed at improving the investment climate, developing infrastructure and improving the regulatory framework for transport and logistics centers. This document was a continuation of the Agreement on Strengthening Land Transport, signed in Dushanbe in 2023.

As part of the visit, the delegation also visited the Electric Locomotive Assembly Plant, where representatives of the enterprise demonstrated the production capabilities of Kazakhstan’s locomotive manufacturing industry.
