Logistics provider DACHSER and Tafel Deutschland have entered into a cooperation agreement until the end of 2027 to increase the volume of food donations. DACHSER will use its Food Logistics expert network to collect food from producers and deliver it to the distribution points of the regional Tafel branches.
The company will also support the establishment of efficient logistics structures for food banks. Another area of cooperation will be to help the regional Tafel branches expand their partnerships with producers in order to save even more food from being thrown away. The first phase of the project began on March 1 in the state of Hesse.
There are more than 970 food banks in Germany, saving around 265,000 tons of food for 1.6 million people every year. They employ 75,000 people, most of whom are volunteers, who regularly collect unsold but edible food from shops and bakeries.
