Estonia to connect Muuga port with Rail Baltica – AllSpark to develop €2.9 million project.

Rail Baltic Estonia has signed a contract with the Estonian company AllSpark OÜ for the design of a 16 km long Soodevahe–Muuga railway section that will connect the country’s main cargo port with the future European Rail Baltica mainline. The contract value is almost 2.9 million euros excluding VAT. The new section will be exclusively for freight traffic and will be the first direct connection of the port with a European standard railway line in Estonia.

According to the head of Rail Baltic Estonia, Anvar Salomets, the connection to Muuga is of strategic importance for the country, opening a direct exit for cargo from the port to the European market. Valdo Kalm, head of the Port of Tallinn, added that the new terminal will strengthen Estonia’s position as an important logistics hub connecting Northern and Southern Europe and offer more sustainable transportation options.

The project includes the construction of a 1,435 mm gauge track, as well as the renovation of the existing infrastructure, including roads, utility networks and a 1,520 mm line. The Rail Baltica control centre and depot building will be designed in the area of the cargo terminal. As AllSpark board member Erki Kimber noted, participation in this project is an important step for the local engineering industry and an opportunity to implement the most modern and effective solutions. Construction is planned to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2030.
