Gebrüder Weiss, serving as the official logistics partner of the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF), transformed its Maria Lanzendorf facility into a testing ground for the Mars Analog Mission AMADEE-24 from January 26 to 28. During this period, the OeWF research team and Analog astronauts conducted a thorough dress rehearsal, assessing both equipment and scientific experiments for the upcoming mission. The company’s employees and their families had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the worlds of science, space travel, and future mobility during a special open house event on Sunday, January 28.
AMADEE-24 stands as the most intricate Mars Analog Mission to date, and the dress rehearsal aimed to ensure the readiness of both astronauts and equipment for a month-long mission in complete isolation. Visitors to the open house witnessed scientists at work, gained insights into the challenges of donning a spacesuit, and learned about the specialized design requirements for astronaut watches to withstand the extreme conditions of outer space. As the logistical linchpin of the project, Gebrüder Weiss will manage the transportation of sensitive equipment from Maria Lanzendorf to the Armenian desert region of Armash, ensuring the safe packing of spacesuits, rovers, and drones, as well as handling customs clearance and final delivery.
The challenging mission, scheduled for March, underscores Gebrüder Weiss’s expertise in special transports and its extensive knowledge of the Caucasus region. The company, with its own locations in Georgia and Armenia, collaborates closely with Viennese colleagues on the AMADEE-24 Mission. The transport route from Austria through Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Georgia to the Armenian desert of Armash begins this week, with Gebrüder Weiss also overseeing the return transport in May. Video footage of the event is available on the sidebar, while regular updates on the Mars Analog Mission AMADEE-24 will be posted on the logistics expert’s social media channels.
