HUNGRAIL presented a program for the development of rail freight transportation.

The Hungarian Railway Association HUNGRAIL has presented the VÁGTA programme – an action plan for increasing the economic efficiency and competitiveness of rail freight transport. The document covers eight key areas and more than 40 measures aimed at reducing costs, improving the predictability of services and developing the railway infrastructure. The main goal is to create a reliable and environmentally sustainable alternative for the industrial sector.

The programme was handed over to the State Secretary for Transport Nagy Bálint at the conference “Magyar Vasút – II. Vasúti Árufuvarozási Konferencia”. The development was attended by the President of HUNGRAIL László Mosóczy, the Chairman of the Freight Committee and CEO of Rail Cargo Hungaria Imre Kovács, as well as the Commercial Director of Metrans Konténer Kft. Attila Zahálka. The plan complements Government Decree 1280/2023, which requires the Ministry of Construction and Transport to propose measures to improve the competitiveness of the railway sector by March 2025.

The program includes steps to regulate tariffs, digitalize processes, develop intermodal transport, eliminate labor shortages and modernize infrastructure. Its implementation is expected to help curb the decline in transport volumes, stabilize costs and strengthen the position of rail transport in Hungarian logistics.
