A meeting with representatives of the National Development and Reform Committee of the People’s Republic of China and the Grain and Material Resources Administration of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region was held in the Almaty Freight Transportation Department. The main focus was on increasing the transportation of grain cargo and improving logistics processes.
In the first seven months of 2024, cargo turnover through the international junctions of Dostyk – Alashankou and Altynkol – Khorgos increased by 13% compared to the same period last year, reaching 18.3 million tons. Particular attention was paid to the increase in the volume of transportation of grain cargo, especially in containers and covered wagons, where the growth was 194% and 372%, respectively.
Projects for the development of Kazakhstan’s railway infrastructure were also discussed, including the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk – Moiynty section, where more than 463 kilometers have already been completed. The implementation of these projects is aimed at increasing throughput capacity and improving the exchange of goods between Kazakhstan and China.
The parties considered the prospects for the development of the Dostyk station, where the construction of new tracks and the modernization of terminals are planned. It is expected that these measures will increase the handling capacity of the station to 1.9 million TEU per year.
The project for the construction of the third border crossing Bakhty – Ayagoz, which will be an important stage in the expansion of transport links between Kazakhstan and China, was also discussed.
