Kazakhstan modernizes railways: new routes and increased capacity.

In Kazakhstan, construction of the Zhetigen – Kazibek Bek railway line continues, which will reduce the load on the Almaty railway junction by 40% and reduce the delivery time of goods to 24 hours. The project includes the laying of 130 km of tracks, the construction of three separate points, 13 bridges, five railway and one road overpass. The contract for the construction of the line was signed on March 1, 2024.

At the moment, 89% of earthworks have been completed (5.6 million cubic meters out of 6.3 million), 78% of reinforced concrete pipes have been installed (43 out of 55) and 58% of bridges (14 out of 19) have been built. The new line, designed for both freight and passenger transportation, is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2025.

Another strategic project is the modernization of the Dostyk – Moiynty railway line with a length of 836 km. Its capacity will increase fivefold, to 60 pairs of freight trains per day. According to KTZ, most of the work has already been completed, and the project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2025.
