In the first five months of 2025, 455.9 million tons of cargo were transported in Kazakhstan by all modes of transport, which is 11.9% more than in the same period last year. Rail transport accounted for the largest share – 185.5 million tons (+14.1%), freight turnover amounted to 138.8 billion ton-kilometers (+9.3%). The growth is especially noticeable in the maritime industry: the volume of transportation increased by 43.9%, reaching 1.6 million tons, and freight turnover increased to 747.9 million ton-kilometers (+14.7%).

The growth indicates an increase in logistics activity, which is associated with an increase in the volume of transit and export shipments, as well as improved infrastructure and transport links within the country.
Against the backdrop of growth in freight traffic, there is a decrease in passenger traffic on the railway – 7.8 million people in January-May 2025, which is 6.8% less than in the same period in 2024. However, in general, passenger traffic by all modes of transport showed growth: 771.3 million people were transported (+10.2%), passenger turnover increased by 12.9% and amounted to 35.3 billion passenger-kilometers.
