Lithuania has approved a plan to build regional Rail Baltica stations.

The Lithuanian government has approved a special plan for the development of regional stations on the Rail Baltica section from Kaunas to the Lithuanian-Latvian border, which will connect the main line with the regions. The plan includes the construction of regional stations with the necessary engineering infrastructure, creating new opportunities for regional transportation.

The construction of the Rail Baltica section between Kaunas and the Latvian border began in April 2022. Work is currently underway on the 29.2 km section towards Panevezys, and a contract for the construction of a new 17.1 km section was signed in October this year.

According to the plan, there will be three types of regional stations on this section: base, sign and platform. Rail Baltica will also connect international stations in Kaunas, Vilnius, Panevezys, as well as border stations with Poland.
