Lithuania will invest 1.57 billion euros in the modernization and maintenance of its road network over the next three years, the country’s Transport Ministry reported. In 2024, 583.4 million euros have been allocated for these purposes, and 493.4 million euros in 2026 and 2027 each. Financing for national roads will amount to 336.9 million euros in 2024 and 269.9 million euros in the following two years.

Part of the budget – 90 million euros in 2024 – will be directed to military mobility projects, including strengthening strategically important roads, bridges and viaducts to ensure rapid movement of troops.

These investments fit into the general trend in Northern Europe to strengthen transport infrastructure for military purposes. Earlier, Bane Nor ordered wagons for transporting heavy equipment, and Finland and Norway announced plans to improve rail and road links between the countries.
