Migros and SBB Cargo discuss long-term cooperation in rail freight transport.

The discussions between the two companies will define the framework for continued cooperation in logistics operations.

Migros and SBB Cargo are in discussions regarding a long-term contract for rail freight services, focusing on the continued transportation of goods across Switzerland. Rail remains a primary mode of transport for Migros’ supply chain, with daily deliveries ensuring store shelves remain stocked.

SBB Cargo currently moves around 320 rail wagons for Migros each day, transporting goods such as fruit, pasta, and hygiene products. In 2024, the total transported volume reached approximately 1.2 million tons, covering 12.1 million kilometers by rail. Migros remains one of the largest customers of SBB Cargo and has used rail freight as a core logistics solution for years.

The ongoing negotiations underline Migros’ reliance on rail for national distribution. According to SBB Cargo, rail transport enables efficient delivery of large quantities while avoiding road congestion and restrictions on nighttime driving.
