ONE will be the first shipping operator to connect to shore power supply in the Port of Hamburg.

During the international trade fair Transport Logistic 2025 in Munich, Ocean Network Express (Europe) Ltd. (ONE) signed an agreement with the city of Hamburg on the future use of shore power supply in the port. The document was signed by ONE Managing Director Takahiro Kikuchi, Hamburg Senator for Economic Affairs Dr. Melanie Leonhard and Chief Commercial Officer of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) Friedrich Stuhrmann.

Since May 2024, the Port of Hamburg has been providing shore power supply for cruise and container ships and plans to equip all container terminals with the corresponding infrastructure by the end of 2025. The systems are already in operation at the Eurogate and HHLA Tollerort terminals, while installation is currently underway at the HHLA Burchardkai and Altenwerder terminals. ONE is participating in the testing of the new systems and will be the first operator to officially connect to the power supply at the CTB and CTA terminals.

The parties underlined the importance of the agreement for sustainable development: ONE actively supports the reduction of emissions and the implementation of the new EU requirements (FuelEU), which require ships to use shore power from 2030. This is also the first time that ONE has used the technology in Europe, underlining its commitment to reducing emissions and developing sustainable solutions in shipping.

The Port of Hamburg demonstrates how port logistics can be combined with climate responsibility. The use of “clean energy” at the quay reduces harmful emissions and improves air quality in the city, confirming that sustainable shipping is already a reality.
