The port of Klaipeda is preparing to build a new cruise ship terminal in the central part of the city, following the completion of environmental assessment procedures for potential impacts. The Environmental Protection Agency has determined that an environmental impact assessment is not required for this project. Procurement procedures for the civil works are currently underway and the project is expected to begin this year.
A new terminal for cruise ships is planned to be developed on land owned by the port authority in the central part of the city. As part of the project, existing berths will be reconstructed, new ones will be built, and the depths of the pool will be adapted to new requirements. An administrative building for the port authority will also be built, where a cafe and a conference room will be located on the ground floor, as well as an observation deck on the roof. There are also plans for a new yacht club area.
The new cruise ship terminal will become a new attraction for Klaipeda residents and visitors to the lagoon. It will create an attractive space for port events, an outdoor amphitheater overlooking the water, walking and cycling paths, recreational and event areas.
