PSA Antwerp and Combinant create integrated rail service.

PSA Antwerp and Combinant Rail Terminal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish an integrated logistics service aimed at optimising the connection between PSA’s deepwater terminals and Combinant’s rail terminal in the Port of Antwerp. The project will reduce the use of road transport in favour of rail transport, improving intermodal solutions and increasing the sustainability of transport between the port and hinterland. The new service will connect PSA’s terminals with Combinant’s terminal, which in turn will provide access to important logistics hubs in Europe via a rail connection to Duisburg.

According to the new agreement, from November 2024, trains will operate on the Combinant-Duisburg route, connecting Antwerp with cities such as Warsaw, Budapest, Vienna, Ploiesti, Starozagora, as well as with important European hubs including Milan, Barcelona and Madrid. The collaboration also includes the introduction of electric trucks (eTrucks) to further reduce carbon emissions.

Edouard Tach, Managing Director of PSA Belgium, noted that this partnership is in line with the company’s strategy to expand multimodal solutions and improve connections with hinterland. Investments in new terminals such as Duisburg Gateway, as well as the acquisition of Polish operator Loconi Intermodal, further strengthen PSA’s position in the intermodal transport market.
