Estonia is taking a significant step forward in implementing the large-scale Rail Baltica project. A contract has been signed for the construction of a unique section of the railway line, where part of the route will pass through a deep trench. This 9.2-kilometre section between the villages of Soodevahe and Kangru will be one of the most unusual on the entire route. Its construction will cost €70.8 million and will be carried out jointly by OÜ Verston and OÜ Järelpinge Inseneribüroo.

The Rail Baltica project is not limited to creating transport infrastructure – it is a key element in the future connection of Estonia with Europe. According to Anvar Salomets, Chairman of the Board of Rail Baltic Estonia, the new railway will be modern, safe and environmentally friendly, serving the interests of both people and nature.
The section with the trench will be one of the most difficult parts of the project. The trench will be 10 metres deep, and its walls will be reinforced with natural limestone. This engineering solution will minimize the impact on the environment and ensure safe operation of the railway.

In addition to the construction of the trench, the project includes the construction of viaducts, overpasses for wild animals and other engineering structures. All this will make Rail Baltica not only an efficient means of transport, but also an environmentally responsible project. Completion of this section is scheduled for January 2028.
