A recent poll in the Baltic states has shown that the majority of residents consider the Rail Baltica project important for improving military mobility and national security. 60% of respondents in Latvia, 52% in Estonia and 72% in Lithuania believe that military mobility is the main reason for building this high-speed rail line, which will connect the Baltics with Poland and the rest of the European Union.
According to the poll, 68% of Baltic residents see the project as an important step towards EU integration, comparing it to the introduction of the euro. Support for the project is particularly strong in Lithuania, where 78% consider it important for NATO operations. This also highlights the strategic importance of Rail Baltica, which has become even more relevant after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The poll showed significant support in the region that improving military mobility through Rail Baltica will improve security. In Latvia, support is 69% among men and 74% among women, in Lithuania this figure is even higher – 85% among men and 89% among women. All three countries also note political responsibility as one of the main reasons for delays in the implementation of the project.
