Rijeka Gateway has received the last STS cranes, completing the terminal’s equipment.

The last two STS (ship-to-shore) cranes have arrived at the Rijeka Gateway container terminal. The new equipment is identical to the previously installed cranes: their height with the boom raised reaches 138 meters, and their weight is 1,700 tons. The delivery of these cranes completes the process of equipping the terminal with key equipment, including two rail cranes (RMG) and 15 terminal cranes (RTG), delivered last year. At present, the construction of the terminal is 75% complete, and the project is already having a significant economic impact on the region.

The importance of the new equipment was discussed by the President of the Management Board of Rijeka Gateway Peter Corfitsen, Commercial Director Maja Borcic and the Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority Denis Vukorepa. The latter emphasized that the signing of the concession agreement with Rijeka Gateway in November 2021 was a major event for the city, the port and the entire Croatian transport system.

The total investment in the project is approximately EUR 600 million, making it the largest in the history of the Port of Rijeka. The Port Authority contributed EUR 106.7 million to the construction of a 400-metre berth, and together with HŽ Infrastruktura – EUR 31.6 million to the creation of an intermodal terminal. Hrvatske ceste invested EUR 70 million in the construction of the new D-403 road, and the concessionaire Rijeka Gateway invested EUR 380 million in the development of the terminal in two phases.
