SIA “Jaunmīlgrāvja ostas kompānija,” a prominent stevedoring firm specializing in timber cargo at the Port of Riga, recently concluded its ambitious two-year initiative, “Green Innovations with Digitized Loading Process.” Focused on enhancing cargo handling speed and energy efficiency, the project featured the installation of an electric-powered crane and the implementation of a specialized system for digitizing and automating weighing, handling, and storage processes.
The newly integrated electric-powered mobile crane, tailored to the company’s requirements, enables the handling of larger vessels and heavier cargoes while achieving an impressive 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to previous technologies. This advancement not only ensures high-quality service for clients but also promises future cost savings. Additionally, the digitized loading system has boosted transport efficiency for clients, mitigating harmful emissions and alleviating undue strain on trucks. The project, funded with EUR 583.8 thousand in aid from the Norwegian Financial Instrument under the open call “Introduction of Green Innovations and Information and Communication Technology Products in Manufacturing,” signals a collaborative commitment towards a green, competitive, and inclusive Europe.
