The MILEPORT initiative aims to address the challenge of inadequate last-mile connectivity plaguing Adriatic ports, hindering their integration with urban areas and hinterlands, thus causing inefficiencies in multimodal transportation, stunted economic growth, and increased air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions related to transport. Recognizing the global nature of transport flows, collaboration between Adriatic Sea regions is imperative to tackle these shared operational issues effectively.
Efforts to enhance last-mile accessibility and promote territorial cohesion rely heavily on cooperation among freight forwarders, pivotal in optimizing multimodal connectivity efficiency. The Port of Rijeka Authority is spearheading a pilot project to develop a mobile application for Android and IOS platforms, aiming to streamline cargo management processes. Through this app, users can pre-announce their arrivals and verify cargo availability, facilitating smoother operations for both large and small freight forwarders. This innovative approach not only improves user communication regarding terminal activities and traffic dynamics but also enables real-time monitoring of entry points.
Key stakeholders driving the MILEPORT project include the Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea and various partners from Adriatic ports in Italy and Croatia, highlighting a concerted effort to foster sustainable and efficient transportation solutions in the region.
