The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan announced reforms and projects for 2025.

Aviation

In 2025, Kazakhstan will begin construction of new airports in the resort areas of Katon-Karagay, Zaysan and Kendirli. Land registration and design of facilities are already underway. These initiatives are aimed at developing the country’s tourism infrastructure.

Road and railway infrastructure

As part of a large-scale program until 2030, 4.7 thousand km of highways will appear in Kazakhstan, including 3.7 thousand km of Category I roads. In 2025, the implementation of key projects will begin, such as the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan (208 km) and Karaganda-Zhezkazgan (572 km) highways. Also in the railway sector, it is planned to purchase 225 cars and complete the Dostyk-Moiynty and Obvodnaya Almaty projects, which will increase capacity fivefold and improve cargo transportation.

Sea transport and the port of Aktau

The construction of a container hub has begun in the port of Aktau, which will increase throughput capacity to 240 thousand TEU per year. In parallel, deepening work will be carried out to increase terminal capacity. These steps will strengthen Kazakhstan’s position on the Trans-Caspian route, improving logistics links with Europe through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
