The Port of Gdansk requires investment in infrastructure to maintain its leadership.

At a meeting of the Parliamentary Commission on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, Dorota Pycz, President of the Port of Gdansk, called on the state to allocate funds for the development of rail and road connections with deep-water terminals on the port island. According to her, such investments are of strategic importance for Poland.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka supported the initiative, noting the need to build an additional railway line and a bridge across the Dead Vistula River. This will ensure the smooth operation of key terminals such as Naftoport and Gazpol, which account for over 80% of the port’s cargo turnover. Work is already underway to expand the railway network as part of the project.

The President of the Port of Gdansk also stressed that Polish ports face stiff competition from southern European harbours such as Koper, Rijeka and Trieste, which are actively developing railway routes to Central Europe. To maintain its position, Gdansk urgently needs to modernise its railway infrastructure and diversify cargo flows.
