The Port of Riga will invest €64.5 million in the development of infrastructure for the production of wind energy technologies.

The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers has approved an investment of €64.57 million for the development of infrastructure at the Free Port of Riga. The main goal is to create a “green” industrial area to attract offshore and onshore wind energy technology manufacturers, strengthening Latvia’s role in the European supply chain.

The project will include utility networks, access roads, deep-water berths with high load-bearing capacity, and logistics infrastructure on an area of 30 hectares. These measures will attract wind energy component manufacturers, which will ensure exports worth €160 million, the creation of 650 jobs, and tax revenues of at least €7.8 million per year. A significant part of the work will be concentrated in the Kundzinsala area, located next to the main shipping channel.

It is planned to complete the construction of the logistics infrastructure by the end of 2029 and attract at least two companies specializing in wind energy. An additional €40 million in private investment is also expected to contribute to the development of clean technologies and strengthen the region’s competitiveness within the STEP platform, which aims to reduce the EU’s dependence on external suppliers.
