The Ukrainian sea corridor handled 130 million tons of cargo – despite the attacks, the work continues.

Since the opening of the Ukrainian Sea Corridor in August 2023, almost 5 thousand vessels have passed through it, and the transshipment volume has exceeded 130 million tons of cargo, of which more than 80 million tons are grain. This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) Oleksandr Semirga during the visit of German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga to the Odessa port.

The visit took place against the backdrop of regular shelling of port infrastructure. Since July 2023 alone, more than 80 attacks on facilities in the Odessa region have been recorded. The ministers also inspected the building of the Odessa seaport, which was damaged as a result of a missile strike in September 2023.

Despite the constant risks, the Ukrainian Sea Corridor remains a key logistics route ensuring the stability of global food supplies. According to Semirga, port industry workers clearly understand the importance of their work in wartime.
