In 2020, this figure was just over 20 million tons.<\/p>\n<p>According to EDB analysts, the majority of freight traffic\u2014approximately 80%\u2014passes through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with rail transport accounting for approximately 60% of all transit. More than 70% of the traffic volume is accounted for by routes connecting China, Russia, Turkey, Afghanistan, and European countries.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the region\u2019s long-term transport development strategy, the EDB\u2019s Transport Projects Observatory forecasts investments of over $52 billion by 2035.
