Other major projects include the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel between Germany and Denmark, and the Brenner Base Tunnel linking Austria and Italy across the Alps.<\/p>\n<p>These projects aim to improve mobility, freight transport and safety across Europe. Construction of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel began in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in 2029. The Brenner Base Tunnel, at 64 kilometres long, will be the longest railway tunnel in the world and is scheduled for completion by 2032.<\/p>\n<p>Rail Baltica will involve the construction of almost 900 kilometres of new track, including challenging river and marsh crossings.
