Volumes carried by rail doubled between 2010 and 2025, and combined transport now represents more than 40% of total French rail freight measured in tonne-kilometres. In 2025, almost one new combined service was introduced each month, adding to an existing network of around 60 connections serving the whole country.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/gruzingeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/65589a8a291bacd2.jpg\" alt=\"Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-17436\" title=\"Europe Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Rail Logistics Europe<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The ten new services cover maritime containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers. They involve rail, road and sea transport and connect ports, logistics hubs and inland terminals. According to SNCF R\u00e9seau, these services made it possible to avoid around 60,000 truck journeys during the year, corresponding to an estimated reduction of close to 40,000 tonnes of CO\u2082 emissions.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/gruzingeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/b80002e5a2eaf2c9.jpg\" alt=\"Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-17437\" title=\"Europe Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>DB Cargo France<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The press material also places the 2025 figures within the wider framework of the Ulysse Fret programme, developed with the French state and industry stakeholders. The programme provides for investments of EUR 4 billion by 2032 to modernise rail freight infrastructure, with more than half of the funding aimed at increasing network and terminal capacity. New and extended terminals were delivered in several locations in 2025, including Bruy\u00e8res-sur-Oise, Cherbourg, Mouguerre, Arles, Izon, S\u00e8te and V\u00e9nissieux.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/gruzingeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/b339ea5c9e0572a3.jpg\" alt=\"Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\" class=\"wp-image-17438\" title=\"Europe Combined rail freight with 10 new services in France during 2025.\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>SNCF R\u00e9seau<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>SNCF R\u00e9seau reports that its role includes allocating train paths, managing traffic flows and providing access to service tracks for terminal operations as new freight services are introduced.
