The initiative includes the introduction of automatic gauge-switching technology, which will reduce border crossing times, lower costs, and increase freight capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, one of the key challenges in rail service between Ukraine and the EU remains the difference in track gauge: Ukraine uses a standard 1520 mm, while most European countries use 1435 mm. Because of this, trains are forced to stop at the border for cargo reloading or bogie replacement, increasing delivery times and logistics costs. The new technology will allow cars to switch between gauges without stopping.<\/p>\n<p>The project is being implemented by Ukrzaliznytsia jointly with the Spanish engineering company TRIA and Spain\u2019s national rail infrastructure operator, Adif. Spain already has extensive experience using similar solutions, which will be adapted for Ukrainian-European routes.
